It’s a frosty Friday night, Homecoming football games all around us, and Deb and I were in the mood for comfort-food….Mexican style. We remembered that there is a new place on the east side of Avon, called “K’iin-Uh Contemporary Mexican Cuisine”, and this seemed like a good time to check it out.
When we arrived, we were a little surprised that there was almost no-one there at 6:45 on a beautiful Friday night. The place was every colorful and inviting, and we were greeted quickly and shown to our booth.
Soon, our host brought us a bowl of tortilla chips and salsa, and took our drink order. The chips were just average…fresh, but nothing special. The salsa was a little different. It seemed to have a slightly smokey flavor which I loved, but Deborah wasn’t impressed with.
The menu was complete with all of the traditional Mexican fare. I settled on the taco dinner, and Deborah ordered enchilada’s. We also ordered a bowl of queso to have with our chips.
The service was very slow, especially since there were only about 4 other tables of patrons there. Eventually our queso arrived, and I have to say we were VERY disappointed in it. We’re used to queso blanco being served warm, but we ended up with something that looked like melted Velveeta, and was roughly room temperature. It was one of the few times we have left a large part of our queso uneaten.
Our meals were also very slow to be served. It would have been understandable if the restaurant had been busy. Once our main course arrived, it was beautifully served. The tableware was all very nice, and the rectangular plates made for a terrific presentation.
My meal consisted of 3 tacos, rice, refried black beans, and a salad. My tacos were piping hot and very tasty. I’m sorry to say my beans were served at room temperature. They had a good flavor, but should have been at least warmed up. The salad was very good, and the rice was OK. (nothing to write home about).
Deborah ordered beef enchilada’s. They were also served beautifully, but nothing special about them. Deborah’s beans were also at room temperature.
Our bill tonight came to just over $30.00, which included Deborah’s cola…..I only drink water. While we both had ample portions, there was nothing on our plates that really impressed us.
I’m left with the feeling that K’iin-Uh is trying to be an upscale restaurant by focusing on the presentation of the food, rather than on the food itself, or even the service.
I’m afraid I won’t return.

We went there once, but they didn’t even have queso on the menu or any “traditional” items we expected like burritos. They had only “contemporary” cuisine that we were not in the mood for. We also had very poor servive. Luckily, last night we went to El Rodeo, my favorite Mexican restaurant and the best margaritas in Avon. We almost always get great service there and our queso was deish!!
