Black Swan Brewpub

Black Swan Brewpub

Well tonight was our weekly date-night, so Deborah and I took off in search of someplace new to try for dinner. Truth is, I was doing all of the searching, and Deborah was pretty much along for the ride. We ended up in Plainfield at a little place called the Black Swan Brewpub, just off of State Road 267, and just north of I-70.

We were greeted warmly just as we walked in the door and ushered to a booth in the corner of the restaurant. Having never been here before, we asked Brandon, our server, what he’d suggest.

Brandon, our server

You could tell Brandon was in to his job and was proud of the menu. He said his favorite sandwich on the menu was a reuben, which Deborah promptly ordered. I, on the other hand, couldn’t decide between the Black Swan Bison Burger or the Brewpub Brat. Brandon said the burger should be served “medium”, and since I can’t really face a burger that isn’t completely done on the inside, so I stuck with the brat.

While we waited on our sandwiches, we indulged in an appetizer of baked brie ($5.95) – which was fabulous! Brie, toasted walnuts, cherry onion marmalade and crostini. Worth every penny!

Soon our sandwiches arrived, and we were both very pleased. Deborah’s reuben ($9.25) was filled with house corned beef, sauerkraut, Russian dressing and swiss cheese on rye. She chose the salt & vinegar frites with sun dried tomato aioli. The sandwich was grilled to perfection and was large enough to take half of it home for lunch tomorrow! The frites were a little too salty for her taste, but the tomato aioli was awesome!

My Brewhouse Brat ($8.25) was served on a scrumptious pretzel roll with carmelized onions and a little sauerkraut and stoneground mustard. It was one of the best brats I’ve ever tasted.

Brewpub Brat

The roll was fresh, the onions were perfect, and I loved every bite. I also chose frites, but I opted for the herb toss and peppadew aioli which turned out to be a great combination! Since they offer no less than 16 draught beers from Indiana and around the region, I couldn’t resist trying something new. I asked Brandon for a recommendation on something dark and heavy, and he pointed me towards a blueberry stout. Ok…blueberry beer doesn’t sound so good, but let me tell you….order up a 1/2 pint and give this a whirl!! I loved it!!

Overall, Deborah and I had a very nice meal, served hot and quickly by Brandon, and we would definitely recommend this place for a casual dinner!

The Black Swan Brewpub is located at 2067 E Hadley in Plainfield, Indiana, 46168. You can reach them by phone at: 317-838-7444, or on the web at

ps….they do offer a children’s menu, although we were more than happy that there were no children around during our dinner. 🙂
